Who This Is For
Guardians of dogs who could be described as "mostly good dogs" who just bark too much.
People who’d like their dog to notice small world events without turning it into a breaking‑news broadcast.
People who want barking to serve a useful role, instead of becoming nonstop noise.
Folks who like having a clear plan (and a little accountability) without signing up for a full‑time project.
2 Core Skills
Noise to Notice
Barrier barking isn’t random noise — it’s your dog filing a report: “Do you see what I see?” In this first lesson, you’ll learn how to read that report, pause instead of shouting back, and give a clear answer. We’ll use a simple pattern — notice, name, and shift — to show your dog you’re on the case. That’s the first step from spiraling solo to purposeful reporting.
Cells vs Shadows
Right now, your dog’s brain is like an immune system in overdrive — firing at every jogger, car, or shadow as if it’s an invader. In this lesson, we start uploading new “code”: false alarms get closed loops, while true alerts get reinforced. Through curiosity games and consistent labeling, your dog learns which signals are harmless and which deserve a response. That’s how the filter begins to take shape — less wasted energy, more meaningful alerts.
What you’ll get
-
✺
Handouts + video examples that break down the skills into simple, repeatable patterns you can use right away.
-
✺
Accountability group calls (2 total) — one early to celebrate wins and troubleshoot, one later to reset momentum when/if life gets messy.
-
✺
Video review — send in clips of your practice and get suggestions tailored to your situation.
What you’ll take away
By the end, your dog will still notice the jogger…
— AND they’ll be more likely to settle than to stage a full‑scale event.
Big Picture
(Human-Side)
You’ve got a good dog. You don’t want to change who they are — you just want the barking to stop running your household. Every false alert chips away at trust: when your dog cries wolf at every shadow, squirrel, or sound, it wears on your nervous system and puts an unnecessary burden on the whole household. You want to know that when your dog barks, it matters.
This program is designed to help you get back to comfortable living with your dog: less intensity, more breathing room, and a way to keep the barking that we want while dialing down the barking that wears you out.
Big Picture
(Dog-Side)
From your dog’s perspective, barking isn’t random noise — it works. Sometimes it makes the “intruder” leave, sometimes it fuels their own excitement, and sometimes it’s just a way to blow off steam. That’s why it sticks: barking is effective, self‑reinforcing, and often the only tool they’ve got.
For behavior change to take hold, two things have to line up:
Willingness → your dog has to feel safe enough to engage with their environment instead of shutting down or spiraling.
Ability → your dog has to be able to problem‑solve by offering new behaviors, not just repeat the old ones.
When barking is both rewarding and the only tool they’ve got, it’s going to keep showing up. Our work is to expand their toolbox: giving them other ways to respond, while helping you step in with clarity so they don’t have to carry the whole job alone.
